The Rise and Fall Of the Roman Empire The Roman Empire was perhaps the most powerful empires that existed in the history of Europe. We shall look at how the Roman Empire was set up and what resulted in its downfall. The birth of this empire is credited to the twins Romulus and Remus. According to mythology they were reared by a she wolf. If we look back at the history of Rome it would be difficult for us to imagine a small city state like Rome having grown as a powerful empire. This small Latin state like its Greek counterparts was one ridden by battles and this led to fragmentation. It is a wonder that a community heavily reliant on farming and agriculture and constantly at war became the axis around which a whole powerful empire existed. The Middle Age The fall of the Roman Empire marked the beginning of a new age in the history of Europe and most historians refer to it as the Dark Ages or the Middle Age. The name Dark Age was given by the Italian scholar and poet Petrarch as during this time he felt Latin literature and art were declining. This has come under question as the name is used to denote the period from5th to 10th centuries where there were intermittent periods of intellectual advance and periods of lull. The Vietnam War was the longest war that the USA was involved in. Vietnam is a nation in South East Asia bordering the Indonesian peninsula. During the First World War the Japanese attacked it and wanting to free itself from the French colonial power and Japan HO Chi Minh inspired by communist ideals set up the Viet Minh or League of independence for Vietnam. Japan lost the war and backed out of Vietnam. Seizing this opportunity Ho Chi Minh wanted to set up a government independent of other countries. Emperor Bao Dai was in control of Vietnam at this time.
