The Tower of Babel

Image
The Gate Of God The building of the Tower of Babel has many interpretations to it and here we try to capture the essence of the myth or reality of this structure. In biblical literature the tower was built in the land of Shinar (Babylonia) sometime after the Deluge. The reason given is to explain the diversity in languages among mankind. Apparently the Babylonians wanted to create a tower that had its head up in the heavens and show the superiority of the people but God had other plans and while the structure was on He confused the languages thus rendering it impossible for them to complete and dispersed the people all over the world. According to Hebrew writings the idea of the Tower was to make man understand that he should not aspire for more than what he can achieve. For more info visit: https://www.youtube.com/theopenbook

The Vietnam War

Image
The Vietnam War was the longest war that the USA was involved in. Vietnam is a nation in South East Asia bordering the Indonesian peninsula. During the First World War the Japanese attacked it and wanting to free itself from the French colonial power and Japan HO Chi Minh inspired by communist ideals set up the Viet Minh or League of independence for Vietnam. Japan lost the war and backed out of Vietnam. Seizing this opportunity Ho Chi Minh wanted to set up a government independent of other countries. Emperor Bao Dai was in control of Vietnam at this time. He too wanted an independent country but the only problem was he wanted the economy to be on western capitalist lines while Minh wanted it to be communist. https://www.youtube.com/theopenbook

The Civilization between the Rivers One of the earliest civilizations that flourished in south western Asia was Mesopotamia. Literally the name means the land between two rivers Euphrates and Tigris. Here we look at some of the historical facts associated with this civilization. The region was a centre of culture and extended its influence up to the Indus Valley civilization. The area is flat alluvial land and mainly used for agriculture since ancient times. Since it was richly endowed with water it became the area where there was heavy population. This area was the southern end and initially the northern end was the seat of culture but was slowly overtaken by the south as the people rose to the challenge.
