Eclipse – Its myths and realities Both solar and lunar eclipses over the years have had people rushing to astrologers to know how it would affect them. From being a scientific occurrence this had been transformed to a religious connotation. In this video we shall explore the myths as well as the scientific rationale behind the occurrence. From early times the solar eclipse has had different stories related to it but the common thread was that the disappearance of the sun was due to it being eaten up. Each culture had its own fables while one called it the demon devouring the sun others said it was the frog, dog etc . Fear of solar eclipses still exists today. The Middle Age The fall of the Roman Empire marked the beginning of a new age in the history of Europe and most historians refer to it as the Dark Ages or the Middle Age. The name Dark Age was given by the Italian scholar and poet Petrarch as during this time he felt Latin literature and art were declining. This has come under question as the name is used to denote the period from5th to 10th centuries where there were intermittent periods of intellectual advance and periods of lull. The Vietnam War was the longest war that the USA was involved in. Vietnam is a nation in South East Asia bordering the Indonesian peninsula. During the First World War the Japanese attacked it and wanting to free itself from the French colonial power and Japan HO Chi Minh inspired by communist ideals set up the Viet Minh or League of independence for Vietnam. Japan lost the war and backed out of Vietnam. Seizing this opportunity Ho Chi Minh wanted to set up a government independent of other countries. Emperor Bao Dai was in control of Vietnam at this time.
