The History of Olympics

Olympics Every four years the entire world of sport waits with bated breath to witness the event which features athletes and sporting personalities of every nook and corner. Here we shall trace the origin of this Games and reveal some interesting anecdotes about it. The origin of the games dates back to 8th century B.C and was conducted in honour of the Greek God Zeus. Basically it was a religious festival and held at Olympia. The athletes who participated were all males and came from every corner of the Greek empire. The sanctuary as it was called was named Mt. The Middle Age The fall of the Roman Empire marked the beginning of a new age in the history of Europe and most historians refer to it as the Dark Ages or the Middle Age. The name Dark Age was given by the Italian scholar and poet Petrarch as during this time he felt Latin literature and art were declining. This has come under question as the name is used to denote the period from5th to 10th centuries where there were intermittent periods of intellectual advance and periods of lull. The Vietnam War was the longest war that the USA was involved in. Vietnam is a nation in South East Asia bordering the Indonesian peninsula. During the First World War the Japanese attacked it and wanting to free itself from the French colonial power and Japan HO Chi Minh inspired by communist ideals set up the Viet Minh or League of independence for Vietnam. Japan lost the war and backed out of Vietnam. Seizing this opportunity Ho Chi Minh wanted to set up a government independent of other countries. Emperor Bao Dai was in control of Vietnam at this time.
