Vasco da Gama's Voyage to India

The early fourteenth and fifteenth centuries saw a spate of seafarers wanting to find new routes into unmanned areas of the sea. After Magellan probably the one sailor who is best known for his voyages of discovery is Vasco da Gama. Born around 1460 in Portugal he is best known for having discovered India. He charted the course of the European countries policies of imperialism and colonialism. He landed in Calicut ( Kozikode)in 1498. He set out on this voyage to find a way of linking the East and the West and avoiding the Mediterranean Sea which posed number of dangers for the sailors.
