The rise and fall of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan The British in their quest for supremacy over India did not have it easy especially in the southern state of Mysore. Mysore was ruled by a brave and independent ruler Hyder Ali and later his son Tipu Sultan. Both these rulers were a nightmare for the British whom they gave a run for their money.
