Subramaniam Bharathi

The poet ahead of his times-Subramaniam Bharathi Fondly called the turbaned poet Bharathi was a visionary, patriot and above all connoisseur of the Tamil language. For all his accomplishments he lived a life of penury and suffered imprisonment at the hands of the British. We attempt to look at some lesser known and interesting facts about the poet. His wisdom made the people of India learn so many things. He was known by different names by those close to him. Subbaiah to his friends and relatives, Kalidasa to the people in Pondicherry, he called himself Shellydasa, Sakthidasa and Kalidasa. He was conferred the title of Bharathi by Sri Sri Sivagnyana Yogiji in his 11th year at Ettaiyapuram palace. He used to write his name as C.S. Bharathi.
